Short Response Four: Chinua Achebe

As a tribe, when celabrations come around, they all sit together drink wine, eat rich food such as bugs, and they tell stories of the good times that they remember or pass down. Also, they always stick together. If they dont like somethings, like the white men that approach them on horses, they go after them together. These practices say that they are a strong tribe and that they follow what they believe in.
Okonkwo is like a leader, he plans to rebuild after his exile to create a better life for his sons and himself. Within the customs of the tribe, Okonkwo sometimes stands off to the side because he does not believe in what they believe in, although he has always stood strong beside his tribe. for example, okonkwo did not want to kill his son and when he did he felt shameful or the time that he wanted to thank someone for the gift of yams, and they told him to kill his sons and then kill himself, he replied thats enough, i will not thank you no more. He does stand strong; however it fits the tribe good because it gives them stability.
